Barrowfields path to be extended to Lusty Glaze

Major improvements to the Barrowfields in Newquay are set to get underway, with the extension of the popular foot and cycle path to Lusty Glaze.

The project is part of the Cornwall Council Urban Green Shoots initiative, funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund and contributions from property developers.

Cornwall Councillor and Cabinet Member, Louis Gardner, says the works will bring a noticeable transformation for residents:

“There is a resin path there at the moment. That path has been incredibly popular with residents to gain access to the Barrowfields. It’s really smooth. It’s really good for disabled people, people with buggies, pushchairs and bikes but at the moment that path ends at the junction with Henver Road. We’ve got a huge footfall there that will go further, from that junction down to the Lusty Glaze area.”

In addition to the path extension, repairs will be made to benches, handrails, and the chain link fence around the Barrowfields. The surrounding areas will also receive a general "tidy and spruce-up."

The works are scheduled to take place between October and the Spring.

Councillor Gardner added: "It's used extensively by all sorts of people, residents and visitors alike and it's really important that we keep it looking as best as it possibly can, so people aren’t going to see the Barrowfields change in any way. The character's not going to change but what we are going to do is give it a well-deserved spruce-up.
