Firefighters were called away from Newquay Community Fire Station’s annual open day after a genuine alarm sounded during the event.
Two fire appliances left the station on Tregunnel Hill following reports of an incident at a derelict hotel in Newquay.
The incident was found to be a false alarm, but the callout gave visitors a real-life demonstration of the crew’s rapid response. The station operates around the clock during the summer months.
The annual fundraising event gave visitors the chance to look behind the station’s big red doors, climb aboard fire engines and meet members of the emergency services.
HM Coastguard, Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Blood Bikes were among the organisations represented.
Visitors also watched an aerial ladder demonstration and a display showing the skills and equipment firefighters use at the scene of road traffic collisions.
