Major longboarding surf comp returns to Newquay

The Stable English National Longboard Championships have been given the green light for this weekend, organisers have confirmed.

Taking place at the iconic Fistral Beach, Surfing England has announced that the forecast promises "fun and consistent swell this Saturday," ensuring that English athletes will have the perfect stage to showcase their talents.

Over 40 surfers are set to compete across the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions, as well as the Under 18 Boys and Girls categories. The event promises a full day of action, with eight hours of thrilling longboard competition.

Organisers say that in a move to raise the standards of English surfing events to align with international competitions, athletes will compete using the priority system for the first time in an English longboarding contest. "While we've implemented this system for the past two years at our Shortboard English Nationals, this will be the first time our longboarders will compete under the priority system in England," said an event spokesperson.

The competition will follow the ISA rulebook, which outlines the use of the priority system, ensuring a fair and level playing field for all participants.

The contest takes place on Saturday.
