A new booking system is being introduced at Newquay's Waste and Recycling Centre from Monday.

Cornwall Council says the trial at its busiest sites is being implemented to reduce waiting times and improve road safety.

It comes after complaints from residents about long queues along Trevenson Road and reports of near misses, where motorists use the opposite carriageway to bypass traffic.

From September 9th, Cornwall Council is asking people to book in advance before visiting centres in Newquay and Saltash, with St Erth Household Waste and Recycling Centre following on 23rd September.

Councillor Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, explained that the system aims to minimise disruption for road users, residents, and businesses. Bookings for 30-minute slots can be made online via the Cornwall Council website or by calling 0300 1234 141, available on the same day or up to a week in advance. Once booked, residents will receive an email confirmation. People are also advised to sort materials before arrival to save time.

Certain vehicles require a permit, which can be checked on the council's website.

Eventually, the Newquay HWRC will be relocated to a new site off the new Strategic Route between the A392 at Hendra Holiday Park and Nansledan.
