Newquay Carnival returns this weekend

Newquay Carnival is making a long-awaited return this weekend, more than five years after the town’s last parade.

Now back with a fresh theme - Sea, Surf, and Going Green - the revived event will feature around 25 to 30 groups and organisations taking part. Organisers say it’s set to be a vibrant celebration of the town, its community, and its coastal heritage.

Alistair McKenna, Chairman of the Carnival Committee at Newquay Lions Club, said:
"All sorts of organisations are coming together to celebrate all things Newquay. We've only had five to six months to pull this together for the first year back. This year is about raising the profile of the carnival so we can make it bigger and better going forwards."

He added:
"We saw lots of comments in Newquay social media groups asking where the carnival had gone and saying it would be great to bring it back. We were really keen at Newquay Lions to revive this signature event."

The sustainability-themed carnival has inspired creative involvement from local children, too. Blystra Arts has been working with schools to reuse and recycle old umbrellas, transforming them into jellyfish and sea creatures to be displayed on the day - blending art, fun, and environmental awareness.

The parade will also feature appearances from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and Devon and Cornwall Police. Newquay BID has been praised for its support in helping make the event possible.

The procession begins at 6pm on Saturday, starting from Sainsbury’s, then travelling through Fore Street, Bank Street, and East Street, before finishing on Cliff Road.
