Second helicopter takes flight for Cornwall Air Ambulance

Cornwall Air Ambulance is celebrating a major milestone as its second helicopter goes into service for the first time today.

The new AW169 aircraft, identical in model to the charity’s existing helicopter but featuring the latest upgrades, arrived at the Newquay airbase four weeks ago and has undergone final testing since.

It includes enhanced features such as a built-in weather radar, a rear-mounted searchlight, and a larger main battery. The helicopter was funded through the successful Heli2 Appeal, which raised £2.85 million over 18 months.

Cornwall Air Ambulance responds to over 1,000 missions each year and must raise more than £8 million annually to stay in the air.
