Surf comp called off for a second time

A major surf competition in Newquay has been cancelled for a second time due to a poor surf forecast.

The 2025 Caravan and Motorhome Club English National Surfing Championships, due to take place at Fistral Beach from Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th May, has been called off because conditions are expected to be too small for fair and competitive heats.

Surfing England said they were "absolutely devastated" after planning two weekends only to face minimal surf forecasts for both.

Athletes who were confirmed to compete will receive a refund of their entry fee (excluding the LiveHeats registration fee). An updated selection policy for those aiming to qualify for Team England at Euros or Worlds will be issued within 48 hours.

A new date for the championships is being arranged, with a fresh event format and registration process. Previous entries will not carry over, and surfers will need to re-register once the new dates are announced.

Organisers thanked everyone for their understanding and urged surfers to keep an eye on emails, WhatsApp, and social media for updates.
