Gas network upgrades planned for Newquay

Wales & West Utilities says the work will take place over the next two years and aims to ensure a safe and reliable supply for around 2,700 customers.

The programme will see more than 25km of gas pipes replaced in the region, with works planned in Quintrell Road, Well Way, Henver Road, Parkland Close, Arundel Way, Eliot Gardens, Towan Blystra Road, Chester Road, Treloggan Road, the Narrowcliff and Pentire Road.

Additional work is also due to be carried out in Mawgan Porth.

The company says it will work with Cornwall Council to plan the projects and manage any traffic measures.

Natalie Raphael, who is managing the programme, said the investment would help maintain and improve the network.

She said: “We’re investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area.

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient network that people rely on every day.”

The company added the upgrades would also help prepare the network to transport greener gases in future.

Wales & West Utilities supplies gas to more than 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England through a network of underground pipes.
