Rail services suspended because of fallen tree

Rail services between Newquay and Par have been suspended after a tree fell on the railway line near Luxulyan.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said a fallen tree near Luxulyan disrupted the 09:38 service from Par to Newquay. The branch line was subsequently suspended while the obstruction is assessed and removed.

Rail replacement transport has been put in place for passengers affected by the disruption.

A GWR spokesperson said: "We're really sorry to customers whose journeys have been disrupted by a fallen tree on the Newquay branch line.

"Rail replacement services are in operation and ticket acceptance is in place with local bus operators.

"We're currently working with our colleagues at Network Rail to assess the situation and investigate what work needs to be done to reopen the line.

"Customers delayed by 15 minutes or more will be entitled to Delay Repay compensation. Visit GWR.com/DelayRepay for more information."

The disruption comes just weeks after the launch of enhanced services on the line as part of the Mid Cornwall Metro project.

The latest information from the GWR website says services remain disrupted until 18:45 on Wednesday 3rd June.

The upgraded timetable introduced regular hourly services between Newquay and Par, increasing the number of trains operating on the Atlantic Coast Line.

Earlier this week, GWR reported a 25% increase in passenger journeys on the route during the first week of the new timetable.

The rail operator said there were 726 more journeys between Newquay and Par between 17 and 23 May compared with the same period last year.
